Organizational Skills
Students are taught organizational skills to increase their independence, responsibility and accountability. They switch classes to experience other teachers. During first term Ms. Bell and Ms. Hess-Mahan teach Science, and Ms. Frank teaches Social Studies. During term 2, Ms. Bell and Ms. Frank teach Science, and Ms. Hess-Mahan teaches Social Studies. For 3rd term, Ms. Bell teaches Social Studies and the other two Science.
Students increase their use of an agenda book to track homework. They learn how to organize and maintain desk organization, and how to take notes & manage papers. There is an increasing use of binders, notebooks, graphic organizers, note cards, and outlines. Students’ communication skills are enhanced with discussions, debates, paragraphs/essays/reports, presentations and cooperative projects. We encourage students to speak for themselves & have an opinion.
